Week commencing 27th April.

This week whilst some members of the group focussed on solving the problems of structural stability for the structure in the metal workshop, myself and two other members decided to put the presentation together for pitch next week.

This was a challenging yet useful task in trying to communicate and allow the clients and tutors to understand our conceptual approach to the rooftop space along with the structural side of this experience.

Week commencing 20th April.

This week the final outcome has been of great importance as the final exhibition is coming up very quickly. To ensure that we use our limited time efficiently the first thing we where sure to do was to make a detailed plan of exactly where we wanted to be and what we wanted complete at the end of the week. This was good group practice as it ensured  we where all on the same page with ideas about the structure and what needed to be done before other tasks.

Structure decisions.

We wanted to be 100% sure of the shape and overall look of the structure this week, and so we spent time together as a group laying out in the courtyard and thinking about the height and attachment of the screens together. After speaking with the tutors we agreed that although originally we had planned for the structure to be the height of two print screens on top of each other, the risks in terms of health and safety and the actual attachment of this would be far too difficult, and if it was just one heigh it could be more of a crawling experience which would extend this engagement from the audience.

Along with the screens we felt like we needed something else which complimented the screens but added a different level of visual/texture/colour to the structure which led to us experimenting and creating large scale weaving in wooden frames the same size as the screens.

Sampling- colour proportion.

Thinking about attachment- punched out holes.

I really enjoyed the experimenting a developing with sampling for these weavings, however as a group we found it difficult to decide of colour which was quite frustrating. Myself and 3 other members of the group spent a lot of time deciding on colour which supported the calming experience that we wanted to promote within the shelter, and spent hours making the final large weavings for the other members of the group to come in the day after having made no contribution to say that the colour was unsuccessful and to paint them all black.

Easter Break.

Over the Easter Break, I have spent a lot of time thinking, and gathering research in relation to this project, thinking about our manifesto and how we could use the materials we have gathered to represent and communicate our ideas. Space and scale will need to be taken into consideration due to the outcomes of this unit of work being displayed on a rooftop space, as well as the needs of the clients that are allowing us to display on this space.
Communication over the Easter Break between the group hasn't been as strong as it probably should have been, although we where doing our own research and searching for possible uses of materials we have- it would have been more beneficial for the group to involve and show other members through our Facebook group what they have been looking at and are inspired by.

Rooftop space; Northern Quarter Manchester.

Looking at the rooftop, it looks like there is a reasonable amount of space to deal with, as well as great views of the city which could definitely work in our groups favor, due to us wanting to embrace the city's image in whatever we create, ensuring that the experience we create for the viewer is a relief from city life but also embraces the city's beauty from a new perspective.

The groups research seems to be complimenting each others individual ideas and visions for the outcome of this project which is a good thing and I feel that we are on the same page ideas wise. We are all still definitely wanting to focus on creating something which touches all the senses of the viewer and creates this experience and escape from city life.
